Identity & Cultural Focus
“Who am I, and how do I honor all parts of myself?”
Our identities are made up of many layers– culture, family, gender, sexuality, spirituality, friendships, and personal values. Sometimes these pieces fit together smoothly, but other times they can feel in conflict. You may feel caught between different roles and expectations, or wonder how to stay true to yourself while also honoring your roots.
Identity exploration in therapy offers a space to make sense of these experiences and create a fuller, more authentic understanding of yourself.
Who this works for:
Identity & cultural exploration can support you if you:
- Feel pressure from family, cultural, or community expectations
- Struggle to balance who you are with who others want you to be
- Experience guilt or self-doubt when making choices for yourself
- Navigate life “in between” cultures, identities, or roles
- Long to feel a greater sense of belonging and authenticity
What we’ll explore together:
In session, we may work on:
- Understanding the influences of culture, family, and community on your self-image
- Exploring how different domains of identity– gender, sexuality, spirituality, heritage, values– intersect and shape your experience
- Processing the impact of intergenerational stories, expectations, and pressures
- Building resilience, self-compassion, and confidence in your authentic self
- Creating alignment between who you are and how you want to live
Why it matters
Identity work is not about choosing one version of yourself over another. It’s about weaving together the many parts of who you are in a way that feels grounded, whole, and true. In the therapy space, all of you is welcome.
